Get to know Bryan & Sheila McKiernan, the owners of The Keepers Arms in Co. Cavan
Sheila, tell us about the history of your guest house:
The Keepers Arms main building was constructed in circa 1852. Evidence of the fine craftsmanship can be noted in the façade of the Public House. The premises changed hands numerous times and have had various functions over the past 150 years. We purchased the property in May 1991 with a view to creating a modern yet comfortable public house and guest house catering for a busy local and tourist trade. A major refurbishment plan was put in place beginning with the bar area and upstairs, where the bedroom accommodation was increased to five. During the 1990’s we added 9 bedrooms, kitchen, dining, and a new living area. Then in 2006 we restored the old court house and the granary to its original stone work. This has been a dream turned to reality, with a lot of luck along the way!
