Get to know Cathriona and Patrick O’Toole, owners of Buttermilk Lodge located in the beautiful area of Clifden in Co. Galway

Buttermilk Lodge opened in 1997, not long after Patrick and I got married. We both had a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. We chose the name Buttermilk lodge as the lake just over the hill from us is called Loch Ime, which translates to Buttermilk Lake.

We breed Connemara black-face sheep and Connemara Ponies here, our guests are welcome them and our three lovely dogs Harley the golden retriever and Robbie and Shep who are both sheep dogs. My husband pat is also a qualified walking guide so he is happy to assist guests with their walking routes if they wish.

What can guests expect when they stay?

Our guests are guaranteed a warm welcome and a professional service here at Buttermilk Lodge. Our breakfasts are famous locally and are cooked to order every morning. We offer lots of choice so there is something for everyone here.
